The New Cafe 440 in Coburg Station is a fresh approach to darn good food. It is open and spacious with an urban kind of classy neighborhood touch. The menu has great choices from Salmon Fish and Chip’s, to salads, steaks and burgers. The options are endless and the price range is affordable. The Goat Cheese Fritter Salad is amazing, as is the good ‘ole meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Even your basic Roasted Turkey Sandwich has some spice with Hazelnut Aioli. The food reminds me of home cookin’ gone gourmet. I am not only impressed by the food but also the service. I only had to ask a few questions and knew the food was fresh, homemade and local.
The owner, Todd Schuetz, that’s pronounced Sheets, is no stranger to Eugene or the Restaurant Industry. His last stint was at the Bier Stein, a place Eugene Review has yet to take on but I’ll take dibs on that one. Schuetz understands customer service. He says all of his employee’s must say please and thank you, not just to the customers but also to each other. I like that about Todd. He’s part hippy but the other half is pure Kansas farm boy.
He says, “I want a plate like grandma would toss out in front of you.” Todd calls it “Scratch Cookin.” I call it just plain good food. Café 440 is also green, I’m not just talking about the color of the interior walls, I’m talking about the way Todd recycles most of the brown-water and grease the restaurant ends up with.
You know a place a is good when other customers come up to you and ask you not to review Café 440 because they don’t’ want others to discover this new treasure. We’ll at Eugene Review, that’s our job. Sorry, but this is one place you need to find out about.
Cafe 440 has a full service bar up front and a nice appetizer list. I’d definitely recommend Cafe 440, it truly has it all, great food, great service and great atmosphere.

Todd would also like to mention his chef Katie Reeves who really makes the magic happen at Cafe 440.

Are you a professional journalist? You write very well.
WIth everything Dancer said, I agree. Excellent place! He should have mentioned that the 440 draught beer selection is small but fine. Local ale with flavour, none o’ that pellucid, industrial, yellow water. And I didnt see a television—or couldn’t see one from where I was sitting. That earns huge points.
