Osteria lends to a place where one may wander into to quench a need for a light and casual lunch, a light repast to hold you over before
dinner, and for a easy delicious mean in the twilight. Sfizio literally can be translated as an unquenchable craving. A craving so
intense, that no one meal may satisfy, and your only choice is to return for more. This is Rocky’s creation. He has brought Eugene the
bold full bodied wines of Italy to to be sipped in the sunshine, authentic regional foods to grace our palletes, and food that
is so incedible that our sighs of satisfaction do not do his plated creations justice. Simply, not possible.
Rocky has always wanted, no needed to be a chef. More than that, he dreamt of creating a restaurant for which his entire family could
take part in. In 1998, Rocky made the move to Eugene to take part of Marche, and became the General Manager and executive chef.
He oversaw the creation and expansion of Marche Provisions. Then, sixteen months later, Rocky created a reality for his long held dreams, and opened the doors to Osteria Sfizio. This was the moment he had waited for since cooking as a child with his grandmother.
Much goes into the beauty that graces the plates of this restaurant. Rocky develops personal relationships with local farmers, butchers, and vintners. 75% of his wines served are imported from Italy directly. In Italy, many of these wines are served casually in
pitchers, to be enjoyed with the soul satiating food. However, he does not overlook our verdant green hills that are ripe with grapes
here in Lane County. Whether it is the fresh herbs, the greens that lie beside the rich entrees, or fruits that blend so effortlessly,
Rocky has made sure that all are drawn from our local resources.
Now, it should be understood that traditional reservations are not in play here. Rocky utilizes a new “open-table system” in which
one may use my downloading this application on their digital phone, or book on-line. This modern system assures a customer that they will be receive their table with ease and keeps the flow into the restaurant flowing nicely. The menu here caters to carne (meat),
vedura (veggies), or pesci (seafood). And, of course, the tapas of anti pasta. Sitting down at one of Rocky’s tables, one’s taste
buds may marvel as result of the raw oysters and seasonal fish, barata mozzarella, or the homemade pasta created and served daily.
Look for great things from the chef of this kitchen. As of August 29th, Rocky will be delivering regional creations of authentic
Italian cuisine, importing those wines, and holding five-couse meals that will become this town’s personal addiction. Beyond that,
Rocky promises a local event that will be of grande scale and style that will not fail to be impress the critical of food conniseur. So,
Eugene, if you want to know what Italy has to offer sans the passport, make your way to Osteria Sfizio.
